Tummy Time

Why is tummy time important?

Tummy time is essential for your premmie’s development! It helps:
✔️ Strengthen head, neck, and shoulder muscles 💪
✔️ Improve posture and coordination 🏃‍♂️
✔️ Stimulate bowel function 🚼
✔️ Develop their visual system 👀
✔️ Provide a great opportunity for bonding 🤱

Getting Started

⭐ Start as early as possible! A premmie can begin tummy time by lying on your chest while you recline on a chair or bed. This helps with eye contact and bonding. 💕

Tummy Time Positions

🔹 On Your Chest: Lie back and place your premmie on your chest for early tummy time.
🔹 Using a Roll for Support: Place a small, rolled-up bunny rug under your premmie’s chest with their arms over the roll. Ensure their elbows are in front of their shoulders for extra support. You can also place a gentle hand on their bottom to help anchor them.
🔹 On the Floor with Toys: Use a mirror, your face, or musical and textured toys to encourage head movement. 🎵🧸
🔹 On a Change Table: This allows you to easily maintain eye contact while your premmie practices tummy time (stay close for safety!).
🔹 On an Exercise Ball: Place your premmie tummy-down on a large exercise ball, gently rocking them forward and back. As they get stronger, encourage reaching for toys to help with weight shifting. 🎾

Making Tummy Time Fun! 🎉

💡 Keep it short and positive—just a few minutes, at least 3 times a day to start. Every minute counts!
💡 If your premmie gets upset, roll them onto their back instead of picking them straight up. This helps them get used to the feeling of rolling.
💡 Gradually increase tummy time as your premmie builds strength and confidence.

Remember, tummy time should be fun! 😊 If your premmie isn't enjoying it, you can always try again later with a fresh start. You've got this! 💖

⚠️ For safety reasons, always ensure your premmie is awake and closely supervised during tummy time.
